Top 10 ways to make more money with Google Adsense

There are some simple tips that you can use to make more money from your websites. If you have an existing website, doing one or all of the following should results in an increase in your Adsense income, literally overnight:-

1. Build more pages
2. Change the standard Adsense link to match those on your site
3. Resist the tempation to change the "text" colour to anything other than black!
4. Don't have borders or coloured backgrounds, unless it matches your page (just put FFFFFF as your colour choice for the border)
5. Do choose a URL colour that doesn't stand out - grey or dark blue seem to work for some people
6. Opt out of the “onsite advertiser sign up” - all this does is place the words “Advertise on this site” on your pages, making it even more obvious that this is an advert and not part of the text. You can do this by going to “my account” and editing your subscription to this service.
7. Don't waste time with banner ads
8. Have more than one Adsense ad on each page - use the new text link adverts at the top of your site, a box ad near the top of your page and a further ad near the bottom of your page
9. Make the Adsense ads blend with your page, they should look as if they are part of the text.
10. Do sign up to free information from people (e.g. Michael Cheney and William Charlwood). They offer free courses to help promote their products, but this alone can be invaluable information.

Adding Adsense To Blogs.

A weblog (usually shortened to blog, but occasionally spelled web log or weblog) is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles, most often in reverse chronological order. Early weblogs were simply manually updated components of common websites. However, the evolution of tools to facilitate the production and maintenance of web articles posted in said chronological fashion made the publishing process feasible to a much larger, less technical, population. Ultimately, this resulted in the distinct class of online publishing that produces blogs we recognize today. For instance, the use of some sort of browser-based software is now a typical aspect of "blogging". Blogs can be hosted by dedicated blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software on regular web hosting services.

Like other media, blogs often focus on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news. Some blogs function as online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

The term blog is a blend of the terms web and log, leading to web log, weblog, and finally blog. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called blogging. Individual articles on a blog are called "blog posts," "posts" or "entries". A person who posts these entries is called a blogger.

A blog entry typically consists of the following:

  • Title - main title, or headline, of the post.
  • Body - main content of the post.
  • Permalink - the URL of the full, individual article.
  • Post Date - date and time the post was published.

A blog entry optionally includes the following:

  • Comments - comments added by readers
  • Categories (or tags) - subjects that the entry discusses
  • Trackback and or pingback - links to other sites that refer to the entry

Alongside the regularly updated entries, a blog site often has a less-frequently-updated list of links, or blogroll, of other blogs that the author reads; and/or, with whom he or she affiliates.

Once you set up a Blog adsense is simple to add.

Using Free Articles For Adsense Pages.

In This Asense Page Example I Will Use an Adsense Article From Wiki

(but you may use plenty of article sites to find an apropriate piece for your page.)

AdSense is an advertising program run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text and image advertisements on their sites. These ads are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-thousand-ads-displayed basis. Google utilizes its search technology to serve ads based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted ad system may sign up through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the ads are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the ads is often relevant to the website.

It currently uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating site. If it is included on a site which has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, it will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes known as public service announcements (PSAs). (Note that the Mediabot is a separate crawler from the Googlebot that maintains Google's search index.)

Many sites use AdSense to monetize their content and some webmasters work hard to maximize their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:

  1. They use a wide range of traffic generating techniques including but not limited to online advertising.
  2. They build valuable content on their sites; content which attracts AdSense ads and which pay out the most when they get clicked.
  3. They use copy on their websites that encourage clicks on Ads. Note that Google prohibits people from using phrases like "Click on my AdSense ads" to increase click rates. Phrases accepted are "Sponsored Links" and "Advertisements".

The source of all AdSense income is the AdWords program which in turn has a complex pricing model based on a Vickrey second price auction, in that it commands an advertiser to submit a sealed bid (not observable by competitors). Additionally, for any given click received, advertisers only pay one bid increment above the second-highest bid.

As you can see I have copied this from the wikipedia and have an informative website set up within minutes, you may also add images and more text to page to give it a personal feel, then just add adsense and that's it.

Lessons in Niche Blogging Part 1: Talk Is Cheap

Background
Just about 50 days ago, on May 30, on a whim I started a blog dedicated to the Dave Matthews Band titled The Blog That Jane Likes. This series of entries deals with some of the things I've learned after running the blog for a mere 50 days.

While there are strong communities centered around several message boards, there really are no real DMB blogs out there. In addition, most one-shot audio recordings (as opposed to full-length lossless recordings) are shared via yousendit and other ad-supported downloading sites. Since these sites are bandwidth or download-limited, most popular files need to be re-posted ad infinitum. It's a huge pain and a rather unreliable form of file propagation. With over 1TB/month of bandwidth and 25GB of storage to spare, I set out with the goal of making BTJL the place to download songs from the current tour.

The site has been a huge success, exceeding all my expectations. In the month of June, I've had 397 thousand requests to the site; July has had 150 thousand so far. I served 316 GB of data in June and 149 GB in July. All of this has been at zero incremental cost aside from the $7 domain registration.

I've made more from AdSense in the first few days from BTJL than I have in the year and half I've run this blog. Granted, I've peppered that site a bit more with ads than this one, which only had one ad until the latest redesign where it now has zero. While there's no way I could live off of the AdSense revenues, they will most likely cover my hosting costs for the year, which is good enough for me. I'm doing the site more for the fun of it than for any monetary reward.

Without incurring any costs, I had little to lose on a failed BTJL. Though I was in a bit of a unique situation with pre-existing hosting, there are plenty of free options (Wordpress.com and Blogger, for instance) for anyone who wants to start a blog. I don't know what those sites' policies on placing AdSense is, but I'm sure you can get away with Amazon referrals and the like.

Even if you do have to spend a bit, how's this for an idea: do it for fun and compare the cost to the price of a movie ticket, sporting event, video game, etc. Which one do you think will come out ahead? Talk is cheap, do it.

Blow Up Adsense Income With These 4 Tips

Looking to make mone earnings with your website? The way to do it is through Google’s Adsense program. To make good money with Adsense you need to think differently than most of the webmasters out there. You have to think outside the box. Meaning using non traditional methods when putting your website together using adsense.

Those that have made the grade so to speak with adsense have some valuable tips to teach those that are looking for greater income from their websites.

The following are 4 proven tips on how to improve your adsense earnings:

1. Focus on one format of Adsense ads at a time. There is one particular format that has worked well for a whole lot of webmasters and that is the Large Rectangle (336×280).It has been shown that this format results in higher CTR, or click-through rates. There are many other formats to choose from but this one looks like normal links on your webpage and people click on them all the time. You will get clicks from people who might not even know they are clicking on your adsense links but a click is a click and that’s money in the bank!

2.Have the pallette for your ads blend in to the background of your website. For instance if you have a white background choose the color white for your ad borderlines and background. This will make the adsense ads look like they are apart of your webpage and more people that are visiting you will click on your ads.

3.Use the adsense ads more at the top of your webpage. At the top people will see them more quickly. The top of the page ads are where you will make the majority of your money from adsense.

4.Automate the insertion of your adsense code into your webpages using SSI (server side included). You will have to find out if your hosts server supports SSI. This is how it’s done: Open a text file and save your adsense code in it, name this file “adsense text”. Next you want to upload this file to the root directory of your web server. Now using SSI, call the code on other pages. If you are using automatic page generators to make pages on your website this will save you alot of time.

If you are making hundreds to thousands of pages on your website then these 4 tips will come in handy.Make sure to focus on a specific topic. Your ads will be displayed because it fits the interest of the people looking at your website

Some webmasters using these tips have made good money. But these are just guidelines you may have to adjust your adsense ads according to what your website statistics show you.

AdMoolah

If you’re considering joining Google AdSense, or are already a happy customer like me, you may like to look at AdMoolah, a site which records other people’s earnings from the service. It’s in its infancy at the moment with only a small amount of data, but once people start contributing to it you’ll be able to query the database with some basic details about your site and get an idea about how much you can expect to earn.

I’ve added my details for the 4 complete months that I’ve been on the service - if you already use AdSense and are happy with it you may like to add your own statistics.

Neil's World Adsnese Secrets

In the comments on This calls for a celebratory beer some of you asked what my ‘secrets’ are to getting lots of money through it. While they’re not ‘secrets’ as such these are the things that I imagined contributed:

1. Having good search engine rankings

Most of the adverts, I imagine, are clicked on by people stumbling across internal pages as they’re browsing, rather than regular readers. Most people will find these internal pages through search engines, so it’s important that your site is well-ranked by the likes of Google, Yahoo and MSN. I have a PageRank of 6 for the main page. One good way of getting a high ranking is by having lots of inbound links, and way to get them is…

2. Having lots of ‘good’ content

If people find what you have to say interesting, then they’ll link to you. That will improve your search engine rankings. You can, of course, have lots of stolen content and then spam your way into the search engines but this the more ethical and fun way to do it. The more content you have, the more pages will be indexed and the more visitors you get. I have nearly 5000 pages on here - some with more content than others, but all are, in theory, indexed by Google.

3. Have search-engine optimised pages

Your pages won’t appear in search engine results pages if the search engine spiders can’t work out what’s in them. Use clean, semantic markup, with proper logical headings. Stick the entry title in the page title, and in one of the header tags - meaningful titles also help. Use page filenames that make sense - 2005/10/my-first-entry/ is better than article.php?id=67. The latter is especially bad as Google tends to ignore pages with question marks in the URLs - look into URL rewriting to produce something more friendly; Apache users can start here. Also, in the case of Google AdSense, if the GoogleBot can understand your content it’ll produce more relevant adverts which are more likely to be clicked upon.

4. Place the advertisements wisely

Don’t inundate your visitors with advertising, but make them prominent enough to be noticable. They should be in the first screenful of information on an average screen size. If you put too much advertising up then you’ll look like a sell-out and it may alienate your regular readers who are the ones more likely to link to you (and therefore maintain that all-important PageRank score), so keep it to a sensible level and select colours that match in with your site design. Don’t hide them away or make them difficult to read as otherwise no-one will click on them.

That’s my advice. If you go with Google, you may also want to consider another additional advertiser - by default, when Google cannot show a revenue-making advert (because it can’t find anything that complements your page content) it’ll show a ‘Public Service Ad’ which will not make you any money. However, you can change this so that it shows other adverts which may make you more cash.

If you have anything more to add, please post away in the comments.
